Charity dinner raises RM60,000 for underprivileged children

Johor Baru Community Care (JBCC) has raised over RM60,000 through a charity dinner to support the educational needs of underprivileged children.

The event’s organising chairman Shine Naidu said some 700 people had come together to support the charity dinner, called “EduDinner”, in Skudai, Johor.

“We are immensely thankful for the overwhelming support and would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to donors for their generous contributions.

“The funds raised will go towards the educational needs of underprivileged children in our community.

“It will help remove the financial barriers that may hinder their academic progress,” she said in an interview.

Shine, who is also JBCC vice-chairman, said the funds raised would be used to provide aid, including providing stationery, school shoes and uniforms.

“The funds collected will also help provide transport for the children, pay their school and tuition fees, and cover other expenses in support of their academic needs.

“The dinner serves as a platform to solidify our long-standing partnership with organisations such as hospitals and charity homes that provide direct welfare services,” she said.

She added that JBCC planned to organise a one-day medical camp as its annual charity event next year.

“In previous years, we organised charity runs to raise funds.

“This year, we decided to organise a charity dinner instead.

“Next year, we plan to have a medical camp where people can also get free medical screening,” said Shine.

Established in 2015, JBCC has been conducting various initiatives and community services for those in need, helping over 500 children of various ages, from kindergarten up to university level.

The charity organisation has conducted various community projects such as “Adopt-A-Family” initiative, where JBCC volunteers make monthly visits to underprivileged families to provide basic needs.
