THE world is becoming increasingly borderless and inclusive, thanks to seamless communication, inexpensive travel and mushrooming technologies aiding the unhindered movement of people, culture and ideas.
Because of this, education is also adopting a more international approach and outlook.
While many see the appeal of both local and overseas education, the fact is future undergraduates looking to pursue tertiary education are spoilt for choice with the plethora of higher educational institutions, specifically, foreign universities having a local campus.
This is thanks to universities across the globe fostering relationships and undertaking long-term collaborations to bring the best of both worlds to students.
In the spirit of this modern iteration of educational collaboration for the long-term benefit of students, Taylor’s College, in partnership with Australia’s University of Enterprise and the University of South Australia (UniSA), work together to provide access to two degrees to school-leavers: the Bachelor of Business (Management) and the Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) within Taylor’s Lakeside Campus.
Students at City West campus can opt to split their education journey between Taylor’s Lakeside Campus and the UniSA City West Campus in Adelaide.
Students who enrol in the two programmes have the option of doing all three years in Malaysia or splitting their education journey between Taylor’s Lakeside Campus and the UniSA City West Campus in Adelaide for either one or two years.
Taylor’s College campus director Josephine Tan shared her excitement over the partnership, saying that this would enable youths to acquire insight from an Australian syllabus, infused with local knowledge through the rich experience of academics at Taylor’s College.
“We strongly believe that students of both degrees are able to continue the legacy of excellence, as we aspire to provide youth with a degree that will set them apart from their peers. We want to provide our students with a global outlook. Our students can study in an environment that is home to over 300 international students from 49 countries.”
Tan said this flexibility allows for a richer learning experience for students.
“Through this partnership, they will also be able to tap into the expertise of the academics from the Australian university and learn about how the two sectors differ in both countries. Aside from acquiring knowledge that will enhance their critical thinking skills, students are able to benefit from the transformative teaching approach adopted by Taylor’s. This will allow them to learn through smart devices in a self-directed and personalised manner, anytime, anywhere, enabling them to review recorded lectures and access to notes whenever they need them, ” she said.

When UniSA alumni Jasmin Lim and Melissa Tan look back at their university life, they credit the institution for giving them insights into professional life.
Both Jasmin and Melissa enrolled for a degree in UniSA after completing their pre-university education with Taylor’s. While Jasmin completed her Taylor’s Business Foundation programme, Melissa was enrolled in the South Australian Matriculation programme (now known as South Australian Certificate of Excellence International) at Taylor’s College in 2006 and 2005 respectively.
“Studying in the programme came with its unique challenges, which is normal when you enrol in university. However, I was blessed with lecturers who were helpful and prepared me for what was to come when I started my career; a high quality of work, presentations and networking, ” said Jasmine.
“Our lecturers were also very engaging and up-to-date with the trends and information in the field which allowed me to transition smoothly into my professional life. If there was one soft skill that I value most from my entire tertiary experience, it would be adaptability. I find this skill very crucial especially in the age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution as you need to switch thought processes quite quickly in a world that is competitive and fast-changing, ” she said.
Melissa agreed with the strength of the academics in the UniSA programme.
“The strength they brought to the classroom was their insight as industry practitioners, which most of them were. It really added value to our education, and I count myself as fortunate to have been able to learn from some of the best industry leaders. “My business degree from UniSA provided me with a global perspective.
