Cause of June 27 Sarawak blackout still a mystery

Sarawak Energy Berhad CEO Torstein Dale Sjotveit.

KUCHING: Mystery continues to surround the cause of the massive power outage in Sarawak on June 27, despite state power supplier Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) confirming Tuesday that the outage originated from the Bakun Hydroelectric Plant in Belaga.

SEB chief executive officer Torstein Dale Sjotveit said the power supplier had clear evidence that the total system blackout was due to "an unexpected and serious drop of power supply" from the plant.
