KOTA KINABALU: Police say they will proceed with investigations into a viral video of a brawl in Sabah despite those involved saying there was no animosity between them any more and that they had settled matters.
The video, which has gone viral on social media, shows a group of people fighting – with some of them armed with sticks – in Sabah's interior district of Keningau.
Keningau police chief Deputy Supt Shahrudin Mat Husain said they were aware of the 32-second video, as one of those involved lodged a police report over the incident on Jan 19.
"This incident happened between 1am and 2am on Jan 19 and we received a report on it at about 4am," he said on Monday (Jan 21).
He said the person who lodged the report retracted it later the same day, saying the fight was due to a misunderstanding and that they were drunk at that time.
"The man who reported it said those involved in the brawl were friends and had settled the matter," DSP Shahrudin said.
He said police were getting the statements from all those involved and may investigate the case under section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting with weapons.
"We will talk to them first and see how to go about it and decide later if we will take action or not," he said.
