KUALA LUMPUR: Contract positions provide less stability and certainty to workers but house officers (HOs) have been found to be performing more professionally and with greater enthusiasm to ensure they get a permanent position, says the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA).
Its president Dr N. Ganabaskaran said competition was healthy and ensured every civil servant, especially the doctors, gave their best service.“
Our colleagues serving in government hospitals have seen an improvement in the attitudes of the new HOs with more initiative and willingness to go the extra mile to show they are above average, ” he said.
On Sept 5, Public Service Department (PSD) director-general Tan Sri Borhan Dolah, before his retirement, said that beginning next year, new appointments in public service might not be permanent with pensions but replaced by an improved contractual scheme.
