KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested a suspect following a robbery where he duped a victim into believing that he was a cop.
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the victim, aged 16, was robbed after he and his friends were stopped at Taman Putra on Monday (Oct 10).
"They were approached by three men on two motorcycles at about 5am.
"The suspects introduced themselves as policemen and told them that they were not allowed to pass through the road.
"They then rode away but the victim noticed that the three suspects were chasing after them.
"One of the suspects managed to stop the victim's motorcycle and relieved him of a cellphone, RM20 and his MyKad," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 11).
A report was then lodged by the victim, leading to an arrest at 1am on Tuesday (Oct 11).
ACP Mohamad Farouk said checks showed the 33-year-old suspect was linked to a case in Hulu Langat.
"The victim's cellphone was recovered and a photo of the victim's identity card was found inside the suspect's phone.
"The suspect works as a mechanic and has five prior criminal offences and one drug-related record.
"He also tested positive for drugs," he said, adding that the suspect has been remanded until Oct 14 to assist in investigations.
