ISKANDAR PUTERI: The Johor Baru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) project is not affected by the recent change in government, says Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd.
Its chief executive Datuk Mohd Zarif Hashim said the project which will link Bukit Chagar in Johor Baru and Woodlands in Singapore was more than 20% complete.
He added that Malaysia had committed to the project and construction was going well.
“The RTS project received its approval from Malaysia back in 2019. We have made good progress so far and it will continue,” he said when met during a seminar on RTS and its impact on the Johor property market.
The event was organised by the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia at University of Reading Malaysia in EduCity here yesterday.
Mohd Zarif said construction of the RTS depot, located at Wadi Hana in the Johor Baru city area, was already underway.
“This elevated depot will be the only depot for the RTS to carry out maintenance and service work on the trains.
“Presently, the construction of RTS is generating 1,500 jobs but once it is complete, it will create 30,000 jobs for locals in various sectors including food and beverages,” he added.
The RTS Link is on track for completion by Dec 31, 2026 and will commence operations on Jan 1, 2027.
With a capacity of 10,000 passengers per hour each way, the RTS Link is set to provide easy and comfortable transport between Johor Baru and Singapore in just five minutes.
