JOHOR BARU: The task force that has been set up to deal with abandoned or “sick” housing projects is expected to come out with its target on projects to solve for this year.
Deputy Local Government Development Minister Akmal Nasir said that the ministry was studying the statistics and data that they received with regard to abandoned and 'sick' housing projects.
"I have asked to be given one month to study the data we have received on these projects before giving my feedback to the task force that has been formed to deal with this matter.
"I am certain that the ministry had already been working hard to solve the problem of abandoned and 'sick' projects.
"However, we also need to look at measures we can take to intervene while supporting existing intervention efforts," he said.
He said this when met after handing over oranges to the public at Pasar Pelangi here on Monday (Jan 16).
He added that as a first step, the ministry would focus on 'sick' projects that have experienced delays in completion.
"A project is categorised as abandoned if it has been left for a long period of time. The process of solving such project are more complicated and require more time.
"However, for projects that experienced a slight delay, it may be easier for us to find a solution to speed things up," he said.
He noted that the task force was also expected to have a meeting next month to discuss further on the matter.
"We will set a target on how many projects we aim to solve this year. We need to be realistic as it may not be possible for us to solve these projects but at the same time, we need to also address the woes of the buyers involved," he said.
