GEORGE TOWN: Three men including a foreign national have been arrested for possessing drugs and various types of illegal fireworks worth RM408,943 at Batu Maung.

Penang police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the suspects aged between 26 and 45 were arrested at about 11am on Thursday (Jan 19) during Ops Tapis.

"During the raid police found a transparent packet containing 6.4g of ketamine worth RM960, and five red and silver foil packs containing 18 Erimin 5 pills worth RM2,700.

"We also found 81 boxes and 527 packs of various types of fireworks," he told a press conference at state police headquarters here on Monday (Jan 23).

He added that in a follow-up operation, police raided another premises in the same area and confiscated 44 sacks and 333 boxes of various types of fireworks.

Comm Mohd Shuhaily said the fireworks were meant for sale in the local market.

Urine tests on the suspects found two of them positive for methamphetamine and ketamine while the other suspect tested negative for drugs, he said, adding that none of them had criminal records.

The suspects were remanded until Tuesday (Jan 24) to help with the investigation under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957, he said.
