PETALING JAYA: Two sisters who were adopted by families of different faiths have remained close.
Chong Siw Lan was taken in by a Chinese couple living in an estate while her youngest sister Junaidah Ibrahim was put up for adoption with a Muslim family.
The sisters have not met each other until their reunion decades later.
“They have always remained close despite the fact that they have different religious beliefs,” revealed MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, who is Chong’s son.
Dr Wee said his mother, in her 70s, and aunt were given away at birth as their parents could not take care of all the children due to poverty.
“The distance and difference in religious beliefs could not separate them.
“Thankfully, they have reunited,” he wrote on Facebook.
Apart from Junaidah, he said his mother had also reunited with her other 14 siblings over the years, and all of them remained close despite their different upbringing.
Sharing photographs taken at his cousin’s wedding in Tangkak, Johor, on Sunday, Dr Wee said all 16 brothers and sisters of the Chong family were present to celebrate the special occasion.
“The extended families of all 16 siblings have gathered together to celebrate the happy occasion.
“Wishing the newly-wed couple a lifetime of happiness!” he wrote.
