No issue voting for Pakatan candidates, says Umno supreme council member

JOHOR BARU: There should be no issue if Umno supporters vote for Pakatan Harapan candidates – including those from DAP – in the upcoming elections in six states, says supreme council member Mohd Hairi Mad Shah.

He said younger voters were more politically-aware and were not as influenced by negative sentiment played up by the previous generation.

"The youth, including Umno supporters, are now experiencing a new political dynamic following the cooperation between Barisan Nasional and Pakatan.

"I think for the younger generation, there are no issues (voting for DAP), because the country is moving towards a new local political landscape.

"While your vote is secret, I hope the youth can look at the present government's momentum in making the country better and vote to strengthen the government," said the Johor exco member in a press conference after launching the Oil and Gas Services and Equipment Roadshow here on Tuesday (May 23).

He was asked to comment on Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan's call for party supporters to cast their votes for DAP candidates in the six state elections.

Mohd Hairi, who was also Umno Youth deputy chief, added that the sentiment which plays the racial card was no longer valid.

He said there was also no need for the Opposition (Perikatan Nasional) to continue playing up the issue.

"All political parties have worked with another – Bersatu and PAS previously worked with DAP but today they are harping on Umno and DAP's partnership," he said.
