INDIAN youths in the country have been urged to get more involved in the agricultural industry using the financial facilities available to them, Makkal Osai reported.

South Seberang Perai Indian Association president P. Thulasiraman made the call during a seminar organised jointly with Agro Bank.

The event, which took place at the association’s office in Nibong Tebal, was attended by more than 20 small farmers and entrepreneurs in the area.

Entrepreneurs in the agro-industrial sector could obtain financial assistance from Agro Bank and other institutions to purchase land, vehicles and machinery for their businesses, he said.

The organisers urged youths to make use of such programmes and the facilities available to expand their involvement in the industry.

> The daily also reported that a state chief minister in Puducherry, India, who found out his motorcade had caused a 20-minute wait, ordered the practice to be stopped.

N. Rangaswamy was on his way to an official function when he spotted a group of students waiting near a traffic light.

He stopped his car and called the students over for a chat.

The students took the opportunity to inform him that all traffic in the area had been stopped for 20 minutes in anticipation of his motorcade passing by.

The minister has since ordered traffic controllers not to stop the traffic for him and make people wait, especially in the heat.
