Dr Wee labels Pua a 'loose cannon' for his 'hurtful' comments

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has slammed DAP's Tony Pua for labelling Barisan Nasional as corrupt.

"It is regrettable that Tony Pua has attacked Barisan by calling it corrupt. This is akin to declaring talak tiga (intention to divorce).

"Is he a loose cannon?

"If we are friends, we don't criticise our friends," the MCA president told the media after opening the 43rd Koperasi Serbaguna Malaysia annual general meeting at Wisma MCA here on Saturday (June 24).

With parties gearing up for the upcoming state elections, Dr Wee said he was appalled why Pua made such a remark at an official event.

"If we advocate the spirit of similarity in diversity in the unity government, then we must show our sincerity.

"You make fun of the support from other parties as if it was your chessboard. We are hurt by what he said," he added.

Dr Wee was referring to the speech of the former Damansara MP, who took a swipe at Pakatan Harapan's allies within the unity government (Umno and Barisan), calling them "corrupt".

Dr Wee said Pua should do some soul-searching as his party had received the support of Barisan to become the government.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke also distanced the party from Pua's remarks made at a recent DAP event, saying that the former MP was speaking in a personal capacity.

"Tony Pua no longer holds any position in DAP. He spoke individually and does not represent the party leadership," he said.

Meanwhile, in a Facebook post, Dr Wee questioned why Pua said that Pakatan should win the 16th General Election on its own and govern the country independently.

"Doesn't it imply that Pakatan intends to betray Barisan? Is DAP planning to stab us in the back?" he asked.
