AG should explain Zahid's DNAA to put everyone at ease, says Amanah sec-gen

KUALA LUMPUR: Amanah has urged the Attorney General to give a detailed explanation of the discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) granted to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Its secretary-general Datuk Dr Mohd Hatta Md Ramli said the party respected the decision of the Kuala Lumpur High Court to discharge Ahmad Zahid on Monday (Sept 4), but believed that such an explanation would help enlighten everyone.

"We (Amanah) are confident that the legal process and court proceedings during the course of this case have been examined and deliberated by the judge.

"However we would like to express our view, on the basis of integrity and accountability, for the AG or the AG's Chambers to give a detailed explanation of the reasons that led to the decision," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Sept 5).

Dr Mohd Hatta said such an explanation would put all parties at ease and also demonstrate the integrity of the country's legal institutions.

On Monday (Sept 4), the High Court granted a DNAA to Ahmad Zahid on all 47 graft charges involving Yayasan Akalbudi funds.
