Election Commission to meet on Oct 17 on Kemaman by-election

PETALING JAYA: The Election Commission (EC) will hold a special meeting on Terengganu's Kemaman by-election on Oct 17 chaired by its chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh.

The meeting, among others, would discuss the writ date for the election, nomination and voting dates, the electoral roll to be used, and other preparations.

EC secretary Datuk Indera Ikmalrudin Ishak said no appeal was filed on the election petition where the results of the parliamentary election for Kemaman which was held on Nov 19, 2022, was declared null and void.

"Since no notice was received during the 14-day period, in line with Section 36C of the Elections Offences Act 1954 and provisions under the Federal Constitution, EC will issue a notice to fill the seat within 60 days from the last date of the appeal," he said
