KUALA LUMPUR: After a 15-minute shouting match, Datuk Ahmad Marzuk Shaary (PN-Pengkalan Chepa) has been ejected from Parliament after he refused to retract his remarks against Nga Kor Ming (PH-Teluk Intan).
The incident started when Ahmad Marzuk asked the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, to explain more about Islam to fellow Cabinet ministers about a social media post by Nga.
"There is a misunderstanding about Islam not just among the public but also ministers. Teluk Intan has previously made posts and used the word 'Taliban'.
"Will you make more effort to make Cabinet ministers understand it better?" he asked.
Ahmad Marzuk was referring to Nga's post of a picture of students wearing facemasks and holding toy guns.
Nga's accompanying caption stated that schools were not a place for conflicts, extremist mindsets or violence.
Howard Lee (PH-Ipoh Timor) then stood up, citing Standing Order 36, saying that Ahmad Marzuk had malicious intent, to which he responded with a raised voice.
Deputy Speaker Alice Lau, who was presiding, asked Ahmad Marzuk to retract his statement.
Ahmad Marzuk then said he would file a motion, adding he did know what statement he needed to retract.
"If you refuse to retract your statement, file a motion after this and leave the House until tomorrow," Lau told Ahmad Marzuk.
Soon after, 15 Perikatan Nasional MPs staged a walkout and held a press conference.
Datuk Awang Solahuddin Hashim (PN-Pendang) said Perikatan MPs were dissatisfied over the ejection of Ahmad Marzuk as well as Mohd Misbahul Munir Masduki (PN-Parit Buntar) earlier in the day.
Ahmad Marzuk then said he would not retract his remarks against Nga, claiming that he was only quoting what Nga posted on Instagram.
Mohd Misbahul and Mohd Sany Hamzan (PH-Hulu Langat) were ordered out of the House by Johari following a brief shouting match.
Committee stage debates for Budget 2024 will continue until Nov 27.
The ongoing Parliament session is until Nov 30.
