MELAKA: A former finance executive has been sentenced to four years in jail by two separate Sessions Courts here after she admitted to six counts of criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving sums of money amounting to more than RM600,000.
Tan Siau Ling, 43, a mother of three, pleaded guilty to the offences before judges Hakim Mohd Sabri Ismail and Darmafikri Abu Adam during separate proceedings yesterday.
Based on the statement of facts, Tan, as the account executive of a company at the material time, had committed CBT by transferring the company’s money to her personal bank account and the account of her ex-husband, totalling RM680,108.13.
The offences were said to have been committed at Hap Yeng Seng Sdn Bhd, Jalan PM 5, Plaza Mahkota Melaka in Melaka Tengah district between May 24 and Oct 23, 2019.
All the charges against Tan were framed under Section 408 of the Penal Code, which provides for between one and 14 years in jail, along with caning and a fine upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutors Muhammad Nazrin Ali Rahim and Rashidah Baharom prosecuted.
Tan meanwhile was represented by counsel Nur Atifah Kamal Effendi.
Both courts sentenced Tan to four years’ jail for each offence and ordered the sentence to run concurrently from the date of arrest on June 20, 2023.
