PAS condemns arson attack on Ngeh's home, calls for lowering of tensions

PETALING JAYA: PAS has condemned the arson attack on the home of DAP's Beruas MP Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham early Wednesday (Jan 10) morning as such crimes are unacceptable in a harmonious society.

Its secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said differences of opinion do not justify going against the law and endangering life or damaging property.

“The party commends the authorities' swift action to control the situation and calls for speedier investigations to find the perpetrators," the Kota Baru MP, who is also the Opposition chief parliamentary whip, said in a statement.

The front porch of Ngeh’s house in Ayer Tawar and three cars were damaged in a fire that authorities said was most likely arson involving a Molotov cocktail.

“No matter how you look at it, such a crime is unacceptable as it not only goes against the law but is completely against the basic principles of a community living in peace and harmony.

“PAS believes that differences in opinion and beliefs do not justify any action which violates laws and morals.

“We ask that all efforts be made to reduce the tension due to differences in a quick and wise manner.

“All parties should also be more aware and careful when they voice their views, stands or proposals which may induce tension and disharmony as a small spark may light a big fire.

“We hope Ngeh and his family will stay calm as they have the support of all Malaysians who love peace. We also hope Ngeh and his family receive full protection under the law,” said Takiyuddin.
