Over 12,000 at Johor MB's Raya open house on Wednesday morning

JOHOR BARU: More than 12,000 people visited Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi's Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house here on Wednesday (April 10) morning.

Among them was 17-year-old M. Yugasangkary and her family, who were at the front gate of the Mentri Besar's official residence in Saujana here at 8.30am.

"We saw a Facebook post about the open house and decided to drop by and check it out this morning.

"It was such a pleasant and special experience. We did not expect to see so many people turning up," she told The Star.

Yugasangkary said she and her family would return to the open house in the years to come.

Meanwhile, cook Mohd Anas Sabri, 20, said the open house gave him a chance to feel the festive Hari Raya atmosphere as he was unable to return home for the holidays.

"I am not spending Raya in my hometown in Perlis this year as I only have two days off work.

"I do not want to be stuck in traffic and end up spending most of my time off on the road.

"Since I am in Johor for Hari Raya, I decided to check out the Mentri Besar's open house and it turned out to be a lot more festive than I expected," he said.

Guests were greeted with a wide variety of food from over 30 stalls at the open house.

The event was also attended by members of the Johor Royal family, top state officials and community leaders.

They included Tunku Temenggong Johor Tunku Idris Iskandar Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, Tunku Panglima Johor Tunku Abdul Rahman Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, and Tunku Putera Johor Tunku Abu Bakar Ibni Sultan Ibrahim.

Also present were state executive councillors, State Secretary Tan Sri Dr Azmi Dr Rohani and state assembly speaker Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi.
