Foreigner handed over to MACC for trying to bribe cop

BATU PAHAT: A foreigner has been arrested here for allegedly trying to give RM70 to a policeman who caught him riding a motorcycle without a licence.

Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Ismail Dollah said the 41-year-old man from Bangladesh failed to present a motorcycle licence when stopped by a policeman patrolling the Jalan Pantai area at around noon on Wednesday (May 8).

“Instead of taking out his licence, the man took out RM70 and tried to hand it to the policeman in the hope of avoiding a summons.

“The policeman warned him to stop, but the suspect insisted and kept trying to give him the money.

“This led to the man being arrested for attempting to bribe a civil servant on duty,” he said in a press statement on Thursday (May 9).

He said the man, who works at a sundry shop, was then handed over to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for further action.

“We would like to warn the public to never try giving bribes or threaten the integrity of any policemen.

“Stern action will be taken against those who do so as well as those who accept the inducement,” he said.
