ISKANDAR PUTERl: The Regent of Johor has expressed disappointment about the water disruption that hampered the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration for hundreds of residents.
Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim said such an incident should not take place again in future.
“If it happens again, I urge the state government not to hesitate in taking firmer action against the company and agencies involved.
“Water in Johor is part of the state’s sovereignty and treasure that should be taken care of and preserved with full responsibility,” he said when opening the third term of the 15th state legislative assembly sitting at Kota Iskandar here on Thursday (May 9).
On April 11, more than 1,000 households in Kulai reportedly had to celebrate Hari Raya with dry taps without prior notice.
Although static water tanks were later brought in to provide relief, residents were also upset that the water supplied was cloudy and smelly.
Separately, Tunku Ismail, who is also the Johor Crown Prince, reminded all state leaders to place the people’s interest first in every decision and action they took.
“Since taking position as the Regent for a few months, I am satisfied with the Mentri Besar (Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi) and state executive council members’ performance so far.
“However, I wish to see more effort and new initiatives. I hope all state assemblymen can work together and ensure the success of all development programmes and projects in Johor,” he added.
Tunku Ismail was appointed Regent of Johor on Jan 28 as his father Sultan Ibrahim ascended the federal throne as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Jan 31. end
