Sg Bakap polls: Low voter turnout in the morning


NIBONG TEBAL: Turnout at several polling stations in Sungai Bakap has been low as voters are gradually arriving to cast their votes in the by-election.

As of 9.45am on Saturday (July 6), only 8% of the 3904 voters had turned up at the SMK Tun Syed Sheh Barakbah polling station.

The queues outside the classrooms were nominal, with as few as two people waiting to cast their votes at a time.

Earlier, at the SK Sungai Bakap polling station, voters were mostly trickling in after their night shifts had ended to cast their ballots.

Elderly folks seemed to be the most significant contributors to the early morning votes, with some being brought in wheelchairs.

The roads outside various polling stations were calm, with smooth traffic flow.

Pakatan Harapan's candidate, Dr Joohari Ariffin, visited all the polling stations to interact with voters.

Joohari and Perikatan Nasional’s Abidin Ismail are involved in a straight fight in the by-election, which was called following the death of assemblyman Nor Zamri Latiff from PAS on May 24 due to stomach inflammation.
