Housewife loses RM100,000 to online investment scam

MUAR: A 31-year-old housewife lost RM100,000 after being duped by an online investment scam here.

Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the former bank officer, upon coming across an advertisement for an investment scheme on Facebook on March 14, contacted the advertiser.

“The suspect claimed that the victim can make up to 50% profits within one month of investing," he said in a statement here on Tuesday (July 9).

ACP Raiz added that on April 30, the victim met with a 30-year-old woman who claimed to represent the investment company.

“The woman explained the alleged investment before the victim agreed to sign an online agreement.

“The victim then made nine financial transactions worth RM100,000 to one bank account under a company name,” he added.

When the victim did not hear back from the company, she lodged a police report on Monday (July 8).

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
