PETALING JAYA: The operating licence of the company whose tour bus crashed in Genting Highlands, killing two Chinese tourists, has been cancelled.
The Land Public Transport Agency (Apad) said its Licence Cancellation and Suspension Committee decided to cancel the operating licence of M. Kumar Trans Tour Sdn Bhd, including any vehicle permits issued to it, immediately.
"The results of Apad's investigation found that the company did not comply with the statutory licensing requirements that had been set.
"On July 9, Apad, through the Licence Cancellation and Suspension Committee, decided to cancel the operating licence of M. Kumar Trans Tour Sdn Bhd, including any vehicle permits issued by Apad, immediately for the offence of failure to comply with licence conditions under the Land Public Transport Act 2010 and dangerous driving," it said in a statement Thursday (July 11).
Checks with related agencies, said Apad, also found that this company has a high number of past summonses.
"It is emphasised that any transactions related to the operating licence for the company will not be allowed effective immediately.
"The agency also reminds any company to monitor the performance of their vehicle drivers and ensure the welfare of their drivers is taken care of at all times for the safety of other road users," it said.
On June 29, a tour bus carrying 18 Chinese tourists, a tour guide, and two drivers crashed at KM16.6 of Jalan Genting Highlands, Bentong district, Pahang.
Two Chinese tourists were killed in the incident.
Following the incident, an investigation involving various agencies under the Transport Ministry was carried out to identify the cause of the incident and ensure that these can be avoided in the future.
Apad also reiterated its stance of compromising on any dangerous driving offences, involving public transport vehicles that result in accidents and endanger the safety of road users.
