SERDANG: Violence can never be justified regardless of one’s feelings towards any leader, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Prime Minister expressed his sympathies when commenting on the assassination attempt on former US president Donald Trump.
“We have obtained early information on Trump and whatever our stance is towards any leader, this method is not a solution.
“Therefore, we express sympathies towards Trump and we hope the situation there remains under control,” Anwar said after the Felda Settlers’ Day 2024 celebration at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang.
Trump was injured in an attempted assassination during a rally in Pennsylvania, the United States, yesterday.
The former US president was shot by a bullet that was believed to have pierced his right ear.
According to the US Secret Service, multiple shots were fired from an elevated position outside the rally venue.
One rally attendee was killed, and two others critically injured.
The suspect was shot dead at the scene by Secret Service officers.
The shooter has been identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, a registered Republican.
Anwar also condemned the ongoing violence by Israeli forces against Palestinians.
“This barbarity persists due to the failure of major powers in defending human rights,” he said.
Wisma Putra condemned Israel’s latest attack on the Palestinians, with the latest airstrike at the al-Mawasi refugee camp on Saturday causing severe casualties.
The Foreign Ministry, in a statement yesterday, said this heinous attack carried out in an area designated by Israel as a safe zone for Palestinians shows a flagrant disregard for human life.
“It also contravenes international law, humanitarian law and international human rights law.
“The international community must take immediate and decisive action to end the Israeli regime’s egregious violence and hold its leaders accountable for crimes against humanity,” it said in a statement.
