Teen dies in motorcycle accident in Kota Tinggi


KOTA TINGGI: A local teenager died after the motorcycle he was riding as a pillion was hit by a car while stopping at a road repair site at KM50 along Jalan Johor Baru-Mersing.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Hussin Zamora said the incident, which occurred at around 4.15am on Tuesday (July 16) morning, involved two motorcycles, a car, and a foreign labourer.

“The incident happened when the victim, together with his friend, who is the motorcyclist, both 17 years, stopped at the location together with another motorcycle, after being waved by a 37-year-old Bangladeshi construction worker.

“They were told to stop to allow vehicles from the opposite direction to continue their journey. While waiting for their turn to move, a car, driven by a 29-year-old local man, hit the two motorcycles from the back, impacting the foreign worker as well,” he said.

Supt Hussin added that due to the collision, the victim died at the scene because of severe head injuries while the other victims also sustained injuries.

He said the body, together with the other victims, has been sent to Kota Tinggi Hospital for a post mortem and medical treatment.

Supt Hussin added that the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
