King performs Friday prayers at National Mosque


KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia performed Friday prayers at the National Mosque here on Friday.

Sultan Ibrahim, who donned the Baju Melayu Teluk Belanga in his favourite shade, Tiffany blue, arrived at the mosque at 1.10pm and was welcomed by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, who is also chairman of the Special Committee for the King’s Installation Events, and Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul were also present to greet His Majesty.

His Majesty then joined over 1,000 worshippers to listen to the special Friday sermon, which was held in conjunction with the Installation Ceremony of the 17th King of Malaysia.

The sermon titled ‘Raja Ditaati, Negara Dirahmati’ was delivered by the National Mosque Grand Imam Ehsan Mohd Hosni.

It called on Malaysians, particularly Muslims, to remain loyal to the King in carrying out his duties, in line with the Rukun Negara principle.

Events in conjunction with the Installation Ceremony of the 17th King of Malaysia began on Friday (July 19) with the Yasin Recital and Doa Selamat at the National Mosque.

Other events are the Royal Banquet at Istana Negara on Saturday (July 20) evening and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia’s visit to the Orang Asli Hospital in Gombak on July 23.

The ‘Raja Kita’ exhibition will be held at the National Museum on July 25 and open to the public from July 26 until Sept 2, offering an opportunity for the public to view around 130 royal regalia from both the federal level and the state of Johor. - Bernama
