Suspect nabbed over death of man in house fire


IPOH: A house fire which killed a 46-year-old man is now a murder investigation.

The police have arrested a suspect in connection with the death of the man, killed in a house fire in Sitiawan yesterday morning.

Manjung OCPD Asst Comm Hasbullah Abd Rahman said that a witness saw a male suspect, believed to be the sibling of the victim, entering the house before hearing loud thuds from the living room.

“The suspect then left the house and returned with two containers, believed to be filled with petrol. The suspect fled the scene before the witness noticed the fire.“The victim’s body has been sent to Hospital Permaisuri Raja Bainun in Ipoh for a post-mortem,” he said.

Following the witness statement, the 39-year-old suspect was arrested near the scene, said ACP Hasbullah.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and a seven-day remand has been granted for further investigation, he added.
