GISB probe: Action regarding issue to be taken after comprehensive report, says minister

SHAH ALAM: Any necessary actions regarding the GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISB) issue will be taken after receiving a comprehensive report from the special investigative team, says Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir.

He said that the ministry has yet to receive a complete report on whether lecturers or students at public universities are involved or linked to the matter. "However, the most important thing is that the authorities are currently addressing the situation through a 'task force' that has been established," he said after officiating the National Academia Month 2024 at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) on Tuesday (Oct 1).

Zambry added, "Let the comments about these individuals be handled through the ‘task force,’ and if there is a need for the ministry’s involvement, we will provide assistance as required."

In early September, the Royal Malaysia Police launched Op Global, conducting raids on charity homes connected to GISB across Peninsula Malaysia, suspected of child exploitation and misconduct related to religious activities.

During these operations, 572 victims were successfully rescued and 359 GISB followers, including top management, were arrested. - Bernama
