KUALA KRAI: Six individuals, including four children, faced a terrifying ordeal when they were forced to wade through a nearby forest after their house in Kampung Sungai Embak was flooded to a depth of about five feet following heavy rain on Friday (Nov 30).
Housewife Azila Abdul Aziz, 38, recalled that she, her husband, and their two children aged eight and seven, along with two Indonesian men, immediately sought refuge in the forest to escape the rising waters.
"At around 11pm last night, my family and I, along with the two Indonesian men, made our way through the forest to seek shelter at Surau An-Naim.
"The experience was indescribable; only Allah knows how difficult the journey was. I had never ventured into the forest before, and it took about 15 minutes to reach the surau," she said when contacted by Bernama on Saturday (Nov 30).
Azila added that before entering the forest, she had informed her family and friends about the situation to keep them updated on the unfolding events.
"I surrendered to Allah as we all left the house one by one, bringing only essential documents to avoid any unforeseen circumstances," she said.
A check by Bernama today found that several villages in Kuala Krai remain flooded due to continuous rainfall over the past few days, including Kampung Baru Sungai Durian, Kampung Chenulang, Kampung Kuala Nal, and Kampung Keroh.
According to the Social Welfare Department's (JKM) Info Bencana portal, as of noon, 40 temporary evacuation centres have been set up in Kuala Krai, providing shelter for over 5,000 individuals. - Bernama
