Flood situation improves in Johor, Pahang, unchanged in Perak

KUALA LUMPUR: The flood situation in Johor and Pahang improved on Friday night (Dec 13), with the number of victims placed in temporary evacuation centres (PPS) dropping slightly, but the number of evacuees in Perak remained the same.

In JOHOR, the number of victims in Segamat decreased to 40 people (from 12 families) and are still sheltering at PPS Balai Raya Kampung Batu Badak as of 8pm compared to 85 people (26 families) at 4pm on Friday.

The chairman of the Johor State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN), Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani, said in a statement on Friday that the drop was due to the closure of a PPS, the Kampung Tasek community hall, which previously housed 45 victims (14 families).

Meanwhile, he said Sungai Muar in Buloh Kasap, Segamat, still recorded a reading at a warning level of 8.82m above the normal level of 7.30m.

In PAHANG, the number of flood victims also saw a drop, with 41 people placed at three PPS tonight compared to 58 people placed in four PPS earlier, following the closure of one PPS, Masjid Kampung in Bera.

According to the Social Welfare Department's (JKM) InfoBecana app, a total of 30 people (8 families) are still sheltering in two PPS, at SK Bukit Gemuruh and Balai Raya Kampung Seberang Guai in Bera, while 11 people (4 families) are housed in PPS Balai Raya Kampung Baru Pertanian in Maran.

A check on the portal publicinfobanjir.water.gov.com found that the Pahang River in Lubuk Paku (in Maran) and Kuala Sungai Chini (in Pekan) recorded an upward trend with water mark readings of 19.25m and 15.05m, passing the danger level.

Meanwhile, in PERAK, the JPBN secretariat said in a statement tonight that the number of flood victims in Manjung remained at 186 people (57 families) and were placed at PPS SK Beruas.

Sungai Perak in Kuala Kenderong, Hulu Perak and Sungai Mengkuang in Kampung Sungai Kuning, Larut Matang and Selama, respectively, recorded water level readings of 111.95m and 20.14m, exceeding the danger level. – Bernama
