Seoul: South Korea’s biggest Buddhist denomination ordered its executive head to step down amid mounting allegations that he forged his academic credentials, accumulated vast wealth and broke his vows of celibacy.
The 56-14 vote of no confidence yesterday in Seoljeong, president of the Jogye Order, by its central committee is the first in a history that dates back hundreds of years – the organisation is believed to have been formed in the 12th century.
