ROAD accidents are often shocking and dramatic, especially those that involve serious injuries or deaths.
As such, any incidents caught on camera tend to go viral for this very reason.
Recently, a video of two tyres coming loose off a lorry went viral and it was claimed that the incident happened in Kuala Lumpur.
Is this true?
VERDICT:
TRUE
In a statement reported by Sinar Harian, Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department deputy director Supt Suffian Abdullah confirmed that such an incident happened in the early hours of Monday (May 20) along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim.
He said that an Inland Revenue Board officer was severely injured in the accident, when two tyres came off a lorry and went into the opposite lane at about 6.40am.
"The initial investigation found that two tyres came loose off a lorry being driven by a 50-year-old man from Rawang to Sungai Besi. Both tyres went into the opposite lane and hit two cars," said Supt Suffian in a statement on Wednesday (May 22).
He said that a car heading from Jalan Mahameru to Jalan Duta was unable to avoid the tyre and lost control after hitting it, adding that the car then crashed along the road.
"The driver sustained serious head injuries and was brought to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for further treatment," said Supt Suffian.
