PARIS, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Lee Kiefer completed a golden double at the Paris Olympics as she led the United States to a women's foil team gold with a 45-39 victory here on Thursday.

Fresh from a first-ever all American women's foil individual final on Sunday, where Kiefer defeated Lauren Scruggs to retain her title from the Tokyo Games, Team USA outplayed China in the last eight, winning 45-37, before crushing Canada 45-31 to reach the final.

While Italy, bronze medalists in Tokyo, beat Egypt and Japan to ease into the final again after London 2012. The event was not held at Rio 2016.

Team USA, who also featured Jacqueline Dubroivich and substitute Maia Mei Weintraub, led all the way through the end to clinch their maiden women's foil team gold at the Olympic Games.

"A team medal for this Olympic Games was like my true dream. I think in the individual event there's a lot of factors and momentum and luck. But as a team, we've put in so many hours of work together," said 30-year-old Kiefer.

Japan edged Canada 33-32 to take the bronze.

China, consisting of Chen Qingyuan, Huang Qianqian, Wang Yuting and Jiao Enqi, finished seventh with a loss to France and a win over Egypt in the placement match.

The men's epee team event will take place on Friday, with Japan looking to defend the title.
