U.S. stocks close mixed

NEW YORK, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended mixed on Friday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 137.89 points, or 0.33 percent, to 42,313.0. The S&P 500 sank 7.20 points, or 0.13 percent, to 5,738.17. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 70.70 points, or 0.39 percent, to 18,119.59.

Six of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with energy and utilities leading the gainers by going up 2.11 percent and 1.01 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, technology and materials led the laggards by dropping 0.96 percent and 0.23 percent, respectively.
