Promote planting of local trees

I REFER to the letter written by Ismail Saidin regarding Ipoh City Hall’s plan to insure the raintrees and his suggestion to plant more indigenous trees (Sunday Star, Dec 19).

As a nature lover, I truly believe that planting of trees in cities and towns will not only add an element of green in the drab hard landscape of our urban environment, but will also perform the important functions of providing shade, lessening the noise, purifying the air, and increasing the general well-being of city dwellers.
