THE Crisis Relief Squad of MCA (CRSM) expresses our concerns and heartfelt condolences to families affected by the water surge disaster in Jeram Mawar, Air Putih, Kemaman. The Terengganu CRSM team rushed to the affected areas to provide humanitarian assistance.
According to CRSM national chief Datuk Natalie Lim Chong Ly, upon learning of the deadly water surge at Kemaman, CRSM volunteers were immediately dispatched to provide appropriate assistance and humanitarian aid for the victims and their next-of-kin.
As a collaborator of the National Disaster Management Agency (Rakan Nadma), CRSM did not hesitate to provide support to the rescue teams at the disaster site. Dry foodstuff and energy drinks were distributed to rescuers to replenish their energy.
It is understood that multiple rescue teams are expected to stay at the disaster zone until all those missing are found.
"Furthermore, she urged the public to avoid activities in high-risk areas such as mountains, beaches, riversides and waterfalls during the rainy season. They must be more vigilant, particularly in mountainous areas," said Lim.
"Before visiting a mountain waterfall, you should first understand the weather forecast for the day and surrounding areas.
"If there is an early warning or bad weather, it is best to reschedule the trip to avoid being caught in a flash flood.
"Everyone must heed warnings issued in the relevant areas, such as 'Do not enter dangerous areas.'
"When visiting such areas, bring emergency supplies such as first aid kits, flashlights and so on," she added.
CRSM has also released information about landslides and various rescue information via Facebook, to raise public awareness and vigilance.
