A call for community safety awareness

THE recent deaths of two young boys who accidentally consumed a rat poison-laced snack left me deeply disturbed (“Poisoned crackers: Second victim dies in hospital”, The Star, July 12; online at tinyurl.com/2p9b4k5n). It serves as a stark reminder that safety and health awareness need to extend far beyond the walls of our workplaces.

This heartbreaking incident unfolded during a safety workshop I was facilitating on occupational safety and health, specifically related to the recent Occu-pational Safety and Health Act amendments.
