No joy in home tournament

PETALING JAYA: Men’s doubles shuttlers Lim Tze Jian-Wong Tien Ci missed out on a good opportunity to win their first title together when they went down to Philippines’ Soloman Padiz-Julius Villabrille in the Malaysian International Challenge final.

Tze Jian-Tien Ci, who only started playing together in March, went down 14-21, 21-23, 16-21 to Soloman-Julius in a closely fought match at the Arena Badminton Perak in Ipoh yesterday. The independent pair though were the sole home representatives to make it into the final in what was a disappointing show overall from the homesters in the tournament.

In the men’s singles, both Eogene Ewe and Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin lost to Japanese opponents in the last four.

Eogene fell 13-21, 19-21 to Minoru Koga while Aidil lost out 16-21, 22-20, 11-21 to Riku Hatano.

Koga captured the crown by beating Hatano 21-19, 15-21, 21-11.
