Gillian bags doubles gold with Nerosha at nationals

Going steady: Gillian Lim (right) and Nerosha Keligit are part of the elite set-up in the national team.

PETALING JAYA: National bowler Gillian Lim had to skip the National Interstate Championships last year due to Covid-19.

The 23-year-old can now proclaim herself a gold medal winner in the tournament after she and Nerosha Keligit helped Sarawak win the doubles gold medal at the Sunway Megalanes yesterday.

Both the bowlers, who are part of the elite set-up in the national team, scored 2,440 pins.

Negri Sembilan’s R. Nassmitha and Puteri Nurul Dini Mohd Faudzi took silver by scoring 2,397 pins.

The bronze medal went to Kuala Lumpur’s Nur Syazwani Sahar and Nora Lyana Nastasia Norkamal, who scored 2,350 pins.

Gillian revealed that it was her first gold for doubles in the women’s division and hailed Nerosha as the perfect partner for her.

Nerosha earlier won the silver medal for the women’s singles behind the gold medallist and former national youth bowler Faten Najihah Ahmad Faik, who represented Pahang.

“Nerosha and I have been teammates for a long time already, so I think we have good chemistry bowling together,” she said.

“Plus it’s a nice comeback after the disappointing singles outing for me, so I am glad to hold this gold medal now.

“I feel very happy, I think this is my first gold for doubles in the women’s division. Last year, I didn’t bowl because I was Covid positive. I want to thank coach Bong Kihow for guiding me and Nero throughout the event.”

In the singles event, Gillian finished in 16th spot with 1,080 pins.

In women’s all-events rankings, Nerosha and Gillian currently occupy third and fourth respectively with 2,394 and 2,363 pins.

Faten remains top with 2,584 pins while Perak’s Sin Li Jane is second with 2,423.

The winner will be decided once the team events are completed.

In the girls’ doubles, Selangor’s Nur Irdina Batrisyia Mat Aris and Adania Redzwan took gold with a score of 2,350 pins.
