PETALING JAYA: Extra training session is paying off for Selangor midfielder Mukhairi Ajmal Mahadi.
Mukhairi, who loves to practise on his long range shots after every training session, translated it with two beauties in Selangor’s 4-0 win against Pahang in the FA Cup round of 16 at the Petaling Jaya Stadium on Saturday.
In the 40th minute, the 21-year-old unleashed a super shot from 25m to beat Pahang goalkeeper Izham Tarmizi Roslan. Eighteen minutes later, the Malaysian international unleashed a superb swerving shot inside the penalty box after receiving a pass from Quentin Cheng.
His first two goals in the domestic season has whetted Mukhairi’s appetite for more.
And he will be hoping to hit the net again when Selangor take on Terengganu in the Super League at the Petaling Jaya Stadium today.
“I’m happy to have scored two goals as I didn’t expect it. My task in midfield is to keep things ticking with my movements and passes. I hope to continue with this momentum,” he said.
“After every training session, I will do extra practice on long shots.
“I’m glad that this extra training is bringing in the result for me. I like to take long shots and test the goalkeepers.”
The game against Terengganu will be the last one before Hari Raya Aidilfitri, and Mukhairi said it would be great to return to his hometown in Sungai Lembing, Pahang, with three points in the bag.
“One win before Ramadan ends. That would be sweet. We are working hard and hope to be fully recovered for that game,” he said.
Selangor are currently second in the league with 19 points.
