PETALING JAYA: In every league around the world, elite clubs will dominate, and it cannot be avoided.
But what other clubs should do is raise their level and make it even more competitive.
That’s how Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin preferred to look at it when asked about the gap between the top and bottom teams in the Super League.
In the Super League, JDT are top of the table with 27 points after nine matches while Selangor are second with 22 points after 10 games.
Bottom club Kelantan United only have two points.
JDT are too good this season as they have scored a whopping 37 goals and conceded just one. Even the second-ranked team Selangor had lost to them 0-4 in the Super League.
“If we look at any league such as La Liga or EPL (Premier League), of course, there are elite teams such as Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City,” said Hamidin.
“The teams who have financial, infrastructure and team strength, will dominate. It’s the same in our league too.
“The teams positioned in the middle and bottom of the standings have to improve their performance as it will further improve the quality of the matches. Then, the national team as well, will have more depth, which augurs well for national development.”
There had been concerns that the gap was growing, and teams were unable to catch up.
In fact, several coaches, including Negri Sembilan’s coach K. Devan, had said it would take 10 years to close the gap with JDT.
