PETALING JAYA: Kedah need no reminder of how they were “arrested” by an ultra defensive Police side in their first Super League meeting on March 4.
The Cops defied heavy odds at the Darulaman Stadium to steal a shock 1-0 win over the Canaries.
Tonight, Kedah will be out to get even with Police on their own backyard at the Petaling Jaya Stadium.
And they have a new weapon up front to try and break down the stubborn Cops’ backline – two-time Super League Golden Boot winner Ifedayo Olusegun.
The 32-year-old Nigerian is aware of the tough task at hand but is relishing the challenge.
“Police have the most disciplined defence in the league, from what we’ve seen when they play against the top clubs,” said Olusegun.
“They are compact and effective, and we respect them for their qualities.”
Olusegun will be aided by wingers and playmakers like Lee Tuck, Moses Atede, Manuel Hidalgo and Manuel Ott as Kedah attempt to outwit the steely Police backline.
Meanwhile, Police centreback James Okwuosa said they would not focus on just marking Olusegun and they had no plans to “park the bus”.
“We won’t sit back as we can also play good football. When we don’t have possession, we defend. When we have the ball, we will try to create chances and score.”
Kedah are fourth in the league with 28 points, while Police are eighth with 22.
