PETALING JAYA: Selangor have nightmares just thinking of meeting Police.
In their last Super League encounter on June 3, the Cops shocked the Red Giants 1-0 at the Petaling Jaya Stadium and Selangor coach Tan Cheng Hoe wants his boys to bounce back in the return fixture on Sunday.
He believes that by dethroning Police, the boys would end the year with some happiness and return for the upcoming 2024-2025 season with renewed vigour.
“Our record against Police isn’t that great. We won one and lost two. We want to win to give us confidence to be better in the upcoming season,” he said.
“In this last game, many will come and support us and we do not want to disappoint them. We have to give our full focus.”
Selangor have already achieved their goal for the season, which is to qualify for the AFC Champions League Two next year.
The Klang Valley squad have secured the second spot with one game left as they have collected 58 points from 25 matches, five points ahead of third-placed Kedah.
Many believe that Cheng Hoe would be giving some of his reserve players a run-out but he revealed that he has not decided on his line-up for the game yet.
“Most of the players have been given a chance to show their performance. We have not decided on whether to play our usual eleven or a different set-up.
“Each individual knows their responsibility with the team. We know the demand and expectations are high.
“The players know the best is only required despite us achieving our goal already.”
As for the planning for the new year, Cheng Hoe said the team have a long time to plan as the season would only start in April.
“So far, we the coaches and the management are still discussing for next season. All players are important but we are also thinking of suitable imports.
“We want to achieve the best possible finish in the league.”
It’s learnt that the club are looking to extend the deals of key foreigners like Colombian striker Ayron Del Valle, Venezuelan playmaker Yohandry Orozco, Jordanian midfielder Noor Al-Rawabdeh and Singaporean defender Safuwan Baharuddin.
