Swimming: Yih Wey makes cut

KUALA LUMPUR: Youngster Lew Yih Wey shone brightest for Malaysia with a record-breaking effort to earn a debut appearance in the Beijing Olympics after an action-packed first day of the Malaysian Open swimming championships at the National Aquatic Centre in Bukit Jalil yesterday.

The Negri-born Yih Wey won the women’s 400m individual medley in 4:50.52, erasing Siow Yi Ting’s five-year-old national mark of 4:51.01 set in the Vietnam SEA Games in 2003.
