Having sent players into space with colony management challenge Planetbase, small indie studio Madruga Works is taking its next step with prehistoric settlement-builder Dawn Of Man. Read on for more on the new release.
Released on March 1 after a small public beta, Dawn Of Man puts players in charge of a tiny group of ancient humans, whom they must guide through 10,000 years of Stone Age and Iron Age history.
Along the way, the group will need to hunt or flee various mammoths, woolly rhinos, bison, wolves and cave lions, gather fruit, water, wood, stone and ore, and set aside enough for winter in order to eventually become a thriving settlement.
That also means finding ways to unearth and transport cumbersome resources, manage the tribe's morale, and ultimately learn the farming techniques needed to support a well-fortified village.
Pre-release coverage included positive impressions from a number of gaming YouTubers such as Keralis, ZerkaaPlays and Draegast. Dawn Of Man has been favourably compared to Banished, another recent survival-oriented, historical city-builder.
In addition to the scenarios presented in Dawn Of Man, players can also create their own, currently through the use of web coding language XML.
Thanks to the range of post-release improvements visited upon Planetbase, a similar level of support for Dawn Of Man is also anticipated.
To that effect, Madruga Works has indicated that it is planning to incorporate public feedback into future updates, while working on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 editions of the game. – AFP Relaxnews
