> Corrupt officials protecting criminals, says MACC
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has managed to detect at least 20 enforcement officers who have allegedly accepted bribes to keep quiet about certain criminal activities. These officers, including senior officials from several enforcement agencies nationwide, were found to have demanded and received bribes to turn a blind eye to certain cases and let some culprits go, the commission said. Bribes were accepted, it is claimed, to protect individuals who were tested positive for drugs and in cases involving gambling, piracy and prostitution, among others, MACC’s director of investigations Datuk Mohd Jamidan Abdullah said.
