KOTA BARU: The mother of an alleged 13-year-old rape victim may face prosecution after a video footage showed the woman whipping a man believed to have raped her daughter.
The suspect who is in his 30s was whipped with what looked like a tree branch or a cane.
The 37-second video footage showed the suspect’s hands and legs tied, and his buttocks exposed in front of a crowd at Pantai Seri Tujuh, Tumpat, Kelantan on Thursday at about 5pm.
He is one of two men believed to be involved in raping the teenager. The case is not connected to the alleged gang rape of teenage girls by a group of more than 30 men in Ketereh, Kelantan.
State CID chief Asst Comm Lai Yong Heng said police are in possession of the video footage and were in the process of identifying those involved in the incident.
"The man in the video clip was admitted to the hospital for blood clot on his head. But he was discharged from the hospital.
“Police will arrest those involved in the case and they may face prosecution under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt,” ACP Lai said when contacted on Friday.
He also warned the public not to take the law into their hands even if they believe that they have the right to do so. "The public should leave such matters to the police.
"The woman and those who are involved in this case will be hauled up for questioning.
"I appeal to those involved in the video to surrender before they are arrested by the police," he added.
ACP Lai also said that the public could make a citizens arrest under the Criminal Procedure Code but not carrying out their brand of justice.
