BEIJING (China Daily/ANN): More than a month after China reopened domestic theatres, the 10th Beijing International Film Festival kicked off on Aug 22, attracting nearly 5,000 movies from 90 countries and regions to contend for its top honours.

Due to Covid-19 prevention and control measures, the festival cancelled the opening ceremony and red carpet, usually a dazzling moment to bring stars together. Instead, it held a launch ceremony in Beijing Yanqi Lake International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
