BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Dec 5 (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) has received a nod in embracing diversity and shared differences among educators with its latest achievement scoring first regionally in International Faculty, according to a report by Quacquarelli Symonds Asian University Rankings (QSAUR). This shows that UTB is internationally attractive for academic staff around the world, as the index is based on the proportion of faculty members that are international. In the latest QSAUR 2021 edition, UTB clinched the 128th position and among the top 20 universities, up nine places from its previous position at 137th. A total of 634 institutions were listed in the ranking this year with 93 new entrants. Other key indicators that have improved UTB’s scores and positions from last year are Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Faculty Student, Staff with PhD, Citations per Paper and Papers per Faculty. Since its debut in 2018, UTB has gained 37 places over four consecutive years, placing them comfortably above well-established universities such as University of Seoul in South Korea (129th), Universiti Malaysia Pahang (133rd), Tokyo University of Science in Japan (137th), East China University of Science and Technology in China (144th), Kasetsart University in Thailand (149th) and University of Engineering & Technology Lahore in India (175th). The ranking highlights Asia’s top universities annually since 2009. The methodology used to create the ranking is similar to that used for QS World University Rankings (QSWUR), but it also considers a set of performance metrics tailored for the region. With this performance, UTB is now on track to position itself as an international calibre university that is able to attract students and scholars within the country as well as internationally. These encouraging developments will also provide further impetus for the university to strive towards accomplishing its vision to become ‘A Global University Impacting Society’. UTB Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, pleased with the latest achievement, conveyed her gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for the strong leadership, vision and continuous support in the development and progression of UTB. Professor Dr Hajah Zohrah added it is also due to the commitment of its staff and students. Despite its young age, UTB has achieved multiple milestones and is now in the same league with top universities for being named a Five Star University by QS. This achievement follows an equally remarkable accomplishment in June this year where UTB was ranked at 350th globally based on the QSWUR 2021. It has also ranked UTB at 40th place for Young Global University under 50 years of age. While UTB’s participation in the QSAUR provided a benchmark for its progress against other international universities in Asia, it also serves as recognition of UTB’s ability to make a positive impact and significant difference in Asia’s higher education. - - Borneo Bulletin/Asian News Network
